Ark's Concept - a virtual corporation
Sorry, no full or part-time positions are available at this time.
Why a virtual corporation? -
Lotus emphasizes the geographically dispersed user collaboration model, but never talks about the same model being used for development. This model works especially well for those of us who do Web site and Notes development
As Notes developers using Domino and the Internet as your tools, you should be able to work anywhere in the world. There are many excellent Notes developers out there who either want to supplement their current income or, for family or other reasons, cannot work full time. These are people that are either not being utilized or are under utilized by the industry.
How does it work? -
To maintain our reputation for high quality work, we use only experienced, certified developers with abnormally high dedication. New consultants are given a relatively small task to start. If all goes well, other assignments follow.
We have developed a methodology and a set of development standards (detailed design specs, GUI design standards, object naming standards, test case frameworks, customer approval process) that give both the client and the developer assurances that the delivered product is both acceptable and "payable".
The client AND the developer sign off on the specifications and test cases that reside on our Web site or the client's network.
90% of the time the contract is fixed price for the construction of the application and T&M for requirements gathering and detail design. We use a combination of techniques to drive out the requirements and produce the design. Primarily, we use JAD with process modeling, designing for change, and prototyping (as much as you can use prototyping in Notes). Net Objects Fusion is used for prototyping all Domino Web sites.
These methods plus our lower-than-normal rate base for computing fixed price proposals guarantee the usability of the application, give the client and the developer a high level of comfort, and negate the requirement that the developer be on-site where the client can "keep an eye on you".
To make this happen, we rely on full-time and "on call" part-time Notes developers who can spend 10-15 hrs/week doing specific, detailed Notes database development.
Because all of Ark's fixed price work is warranted for six months, consultants must be willing to back up their work for that period of time.
To ensure proper coordination of development efforts, big projects are carefully broken down into several independent sections or phases.
Web based communication takes care of much of the replication costs. All development is done locally each day and then replicated to the Ark Web site or the client's network for review, testing and approval. We also use a one-rate mobile phone service to keep long distance costs down. In the near future, we will use Lotus Sametime to keep in touch "real-time".

"It took me about four years to find a consultant who understood our needs and had the expertise to guide us. Ark has provided the guidance we were seeking, and as a result, both members and staff alike love our new website. We couldn't be happier at this point". "We have found that to generate quality traffic you need a prominent place in the search engines. This is has been an area where Ark has been a tremendous asset. If we were to try to accomplish this on our own, it would be a time consuming task, with no guarantee of results." Read these and other testimonials of Ark's expertise |
